Finally, everything's done- exams are over, all coursework has been handed in. the official transcript will be sent to NUS in august and if students want a copy of their own, they'd have to fork out 5pounds! OMgosh, that's 15SGD. i simply detest the exchange rate. i'm probably going to start packing soon so that there's no last minute rush to get things done.. 'it's always better to start early' - everyone knows that but i sometimes love the adrenaline that flows when u're just so short for time. So effectively, term's over for me.. holidays have begun. Wait.. correction. coming on exchange was a holiday from the start - i'm talking relative terms here.
I've just booked train tickets to london. i'll be visiting my professor and his wife just before i return to singapore. He was my professor at my very first class at NUS and i'm really proud to call him my friend and mentor now. i can find no words to describe the feeling of having found a friend and confidante in a professor (that's just unthinkable, inconceivable, impossible to imagine..) except that God works in wonderful and mysterious ways. He has given me so much insight to issues pertaining not only to academia but in other areas as well - life, philosophy, religion (christianity and catholicism especially), romance, sin, history etc. His knowledge just amazes me. i don't suppose my pea-brain would ever be able to contain that much information; my database is just too small and i'm not ashamed to admit it. he has been so encouraging as well as eager in offering me advice for the past 2 years. it's sad to see him leave sg for australia to begin a new chapter in his life but i do wish him all the best.
Anna and i made candles today. i'll post details of the candle-making session another time. i realise my blog's now flooded with pictures. pictures are good because it lightens the mood and makes it more casual and as they say 'a picture speaks a thousand words'. however, i'd like to revert to the more serious mode soon - preparation for term back in sg? maybe. i realise there are two sides of me - the me during term and the me on holiday. i guess being overly serious/solemn while studying just helps me concentrate better; like how i have a 'uniform' when i go to class - t-shirt and jeans. its nice to dress up when u go to uni, in fact many girls do, especially in the arts faculty (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that)but it doesn't work for me. dressing up (to me) is for church, going out, chilling, relaxing. i suppose its the psych at work again: studies - concentration, drive, order, routine, straight-face, uniform; holidays - chill, party, gatherings, casual, let-loose, dressy. o well... i guess i'll have to find a balance somewhere, hopefully sometime soon. it's going to be tough but i'll try. =)
Life was simple. Life can be simple. People today complicate life.
If only everyone had the same central dogma of life.
(i won't bother to explain the last line but please do not misunderstand, i'm not communist and i do appreciate diversity.)
A quote by Abraham Lincoln to end off:
“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present”
