The World is Our OysTeR *~

right.. it's been a long time.. figured that i had better leave an entry before i leave for europe.

Lent term officially ended on the 17th of march and the campus has since been emptying --- of all the british students who return to their hometowns for a month. the easter vacation has just begun and i've been (kinda) studying and organising all my travelling documents - paper air tickets, train tickets, currency, metro and city maps etc. it's gonna be fun! to those of u who are unaware of my plans this easter, allow me to fill u in:
ken'll be coming down to lancaster this thurs (24/03) and i'll be showing him around the city, taking him to see the main attractions. we'll be leaving 2 days later for leicester to visit one of his sec school mates. after leicester, we'll be heading to cambridge to visit sangeetha (njc),spending another 2 days there. ken'll then return to glasgow and i'll head to london where i'll be meeting vicky (my babe of a travel mate) for our tours of spain and france. while we're in europe, we'll be meeting up with the other internationals in both cities so that we can globe-trot together. i'll be flying back to glasgow on the 6th of april and returning to lancaster on the 11th, just 4days before my exam. hahaha~

while i'm still here in lancaster (or sheeptown, as anita calls it.. pple rear sheep here), most of the internationals have already begun their adventures in europe. i can't imagine how people can manage to tour 7-8 countries in 2 weeks (in fact, less than 2 weeks if u subtract the travelling time)?! it's madness really. i prefer to really explore each city leisurely and (yes, dad) soak in as much as possible. doing an amazing race is rather pointless, i feel.. u visit the place, take a few pictures, leave your footprints there and that's it - without even figuring out how the city works, much less gather anything about their culture. their logic, as they explained, is that they hope to see as much of europe as possible during this exchange.. o well, i guess their definition, as opposed to mine, of "see/seeing" would just mean "a feast for the eyes". nvm, different pple, different opinions.
i would travel again in the summer if it's within my budget and if time permits but 2 countries would do for now. (i reaaaallllly wanna see switzerland and italy!)=) plus, there are still so many places/attractions in the uk that i've yet to experience - like the famous stonehenge and ingleton waterfall walks, both of which i do intend to remark before i leave.

Apart from easter plans, i've signed up for the Global Education Convention to be held in NUS from 18th-20th july when i'm back in singapore. an event part of the NUS centennial celebrations where 300 staff and students from nus and its partner universities learn from one another through discussion, forums, workshops (that experts in various fields will be conducting) and social activites! the theme, as the title appropriates, is 'global education and it's meaning for students'. you'll gulp when i tell u that the registration fee is $350 (which includes accomodation at Prince george's park residences for 3 days). the Science faculty has been so kind as to sponsor 10 students... yeah.. i've just received and email informing me that my application has been sent to the international relations office.. i hope nothing goes wrong from there. i really believe that this convention will prove beneficial for me - in particular, give me more perspective on different educational approaches.

Centennial Celebrations

old news...
went up to glasgow in early march for ken's 21st birthday celebrations. his parents were up from singapore as well. they had a family celebration on the 2nd. the day i arrived (3rd), his parents brought us (ken, his flatmates and i) out for a chinese dinner. it was a nice time of fellowship and conversation. ken and i sent them off at the airport the next day before they were scheduled to fly back to singapore. we attended cell group in the evening, meeting at sam aaron's place before walking over to jenetta's. ken was appointed to lead and he was prompted to share about the spirit of forgiveness (particularly with our brothers and sisters-in-christ). mayfong was kind enough to give us a lift home that night. woke up late on saturday and spent the afternoon at the church centre preparing for an evangelistic event to be held the following week. sunday was another day of sleep-in. we had a good lunch before i returned to lancaster. =) (p/s. sorry for the rather brief and boring update =P)

someone please remind me to blog about my volunteer work at the pre-school after easter.. thx
