Glasgow - 06/04 - 11/04
Arrived at glasgow prestwick airport and had to take a train to Glasgow central station. Prestwick is situated in the outskirts of glasgow. Note to all who intend to travel by ryanair in future: Ryanair sells cheap flights but they fly to airports which are quite a distance from the city centre, often in the outskirts or a nearby town. Airport transfer is hence required and can be quite expensive. i had to pay 26 euros (2 ways) for transfer in paris and 19 euros in barcelona.
Anyway, got back to ken's place and rested the remaining of the day. Chris had originally planned to go trek in the Scottish Highlands 2 days after i was due to arrive but due to inavailability of rooms at the one and only youth hostel in Rowerdannen, the trip had to be brought forward. Borrowed Andy's bag for the trip.. (thanks andy!) Woke up the next morning at about 0600hours and took a cab to Queens Street train station because the subway was on strike. (haha) There were four of us, chris, alfred, ken and i. quite a few who were interested initially had backed out last minute. it was a 45minute train ride from Queen's street to Balloch. Our plan was to trek from the bottom of Loch Lomond (huge lake) to the tip of it, where Ben lomond (mountain) stands. all of us trekked from balloch to drymen (1st leg)- gosh it must have been tens of miles. Chris and alfred trekked the rest of the way to rowerdannen (which is in stirling i think - final stop) but i was too tired so ken and i sought a little help from the very infrequent highland bus service (2nd leg). there was no bus service for the 3rd leg (probably 35km?) to the youth hostel so i had no choice but to walk as well. all of us were offered a lift 3/4's of the way but only ken and i took up the offer. (chris and alfred wanted to be macho, ken had no choice but i accompany me). the guys climbed Ben lomond the next day while i slept. i was exhausted. they took 5 hours in total to climb 2 peaks and descend. We played frisbee while waiting for our cab back to balloch later that afternoon.

spent the last 3 days slacking at home. there was a sushi dinner at the glasgow chinese christian church on sunday the 10th. i can make sushi now. (big deal..) left for lancaster the next day...
