The Decision

Basically, EDB (Economic Development Board) has convinced biopharmaceutical MNC, Lonza, to invest in singapore. A 400-500million dollar plant is currently being built. EDB is sending singaporeans overseas to train at lonza's global sites in order to help lonza build up its manpower capabilities for the new singapore plant which will be running by 2009. Selected candidates are neither employees of EDB nor are they of lonza. However, this program is offered and sponsored by the EDB.

I will be training at lonza's site in slough, uk (greater london) for 18months. following this, i will be bonded to singapore (literally... not EDB or lonza, though i'm obliged to work with lonza, singapore.) for 2 years. Depending on my job prospects by the end of my bond, i may decide to either continue with the job or move on to grad school in uk.

What attracted me to apply for this program was the opportunity of working overseas at a renowned and well established company like lonza, the sponsorship and benefits given by the EDB and the fact that it'll look good on my resume. =P also, the scope of this program is relevant to my field of study, which i do enjoy quite a bit (i hope to branch into research later, if possible). the good job prospects that come with working with an MNC is also a plus. what hindered my decision initially from taking up this program was the fact that i would have to skip honours year (year 4) in NUS, in order to pursue this. later, i figured that this prog would be the better choice because there is the option of doing a 1 year masters course (MSc, research) in the uk after my bond. (time-equivalent to doing an honours year in singapore except that u graduate with a higher degree). Taking on this prog would definitely be a good way to kick-start my career in the industry.

so yea, i've made a decision to go - after much prayer, speaking to friends at church and my profs at NUS. (i thank God for helping me make this decision)

Anyway, i'm not writing all this to promote the program or whatever. its just for the benefit of my friends who wish to know more about this, or are confused about what it is exactly i'm going to do.
